ABOUT IPSMF

The International Photography and Short Movie Festival (IPSMF) is an annual international competition organized by the Faculty of Communication and Business, Telkom University, Bandung. IPSMF serves as a platform for an engaging competition showcasing talents across various exchanges of ideas in the form of artistic works, namely photography and short movie.

In 2025, IPSMF has a central theme to guide participants’ exchange of ideas and concepts, titled “Nature’s Whisper: Warning Signs of a Changing World”. This theme highlights how nature communicates with humans through various phenomena, both pleasant and unpleasant. It emphasizes that nature constantly signals through events like climate change, seasonal shifts, natural beauty, or even environmental damage, all indicating a world in constant motion and transformation. This theme not only speaks to warnings about unpleasant crises or destructive changes but also about nature’s touching messages: calming beauty and the deep connection between humans and the environment. Through photography and short films, artists are invited to explore how nature influences daily human life, serving as a source of inspiration, a sanctuary, an inner mirror, and a reminder of our responsibility towards the Earth. The event also features sub-themes such as Nature’s Beauty, Nature’s Sign, and Nature’s Healing. These three sub-themes help to become more specified as part of this year’s central theme, which is Nature’s Whisper.

Through the organization of this festival, it is hoped to serve as a platform for creative competition among photographers and short movie artists. Serving as a bridge to showcase ideas and concepts through photography and short movie on an international scale, which can be participated in by various countries, IPSMF aims to introduce the beauty of street life from diverse nations.

"Nature's Whisper: Warning Signs of a Changing World"

Prioritizes nature’s subtle cues signaling change, highlighting the diverse phenomena that emerge, both pleasant and unpleasant. It encompasses perspectives from various angles, which can be seen from signs like climate change, seasonal shifts, natural beauty, or even environmental degradation, all indicating that the world is constantly moving and transforming. On the other hand, nature’s messages are not only formally created to convey meaning but can also unexpectedly arise in various places, including in our daily lives. At its core, the diverse messages of nature that emerge are about memory and emotion. Furthermore, the whispers emanating from “nature” itself can present the world of photography and short films, and can even become a theatrical stage for artists out there, with characteristics and uniqueness from various parts of the world. This holds a place in every human heart, with the hope that every individual feels the need for awareness and responsibility towards Earth. IPSMF, as an international event, serves as a platform for artists to capture and convey messages of environmental concern through their works, fostering global awareness about the importance of preserving nature before changes become uncontrollable.

  1. Nature’s Beauty. This sub-theme invites visual artists to capture and immortalize the beauty of nature. Natural beauty isn’t just about forms, colors, and textures; it’s also about how each individual crafts their own story through every journey and interprets the meaning of human interaction with nature.

  2. Nature’s Sign. This sub-theme encourages visual artists to highlight natural phenomena, whether occurring naturally or as a result of human activity, which demonstrate that the world is constantly moving and changing.

  3. Nature’s Healing. This sub-theme calls on visual artists to spotlight natural phenomena, both those occurring organically and those influenced by human actions, to raise awareness about the crucial importance of increasing care and understanding that nature always gives us signs, and we have a responsibility to preserve it.
